Kenneth Ralph Oliver

OLIVER, Kenneth Ralph, was born June 9, 1929 in Dayton, OH to Russell and Lorna (Chambers) Oliver. He attended Fairview High School and graduated from Miami University in 1951 where he played baseball and was a member of the Miami M Club. He was also a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Laura (Shiverdecker) Oliver. His three children also survive him; Jeffery (Sharon) Oliver of Upper Arlington, OH; Carolyn (Neal) North of Springboro; and Suzanne (Matt) Goehring of Bellbrook. Mr. Oliver was the loving grandfather of eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Oliver was a salesman for Spaulding Fiber Company until 1979 when he became owner and sales representative of Ken Oliver Associates in Oakwood. After retiring from sales, Mr. Oliver worked as a starter at NCR Country Club. He was past-president of the Civitan Club of Upper Arlington; past-master of the Community Masonic Temple #684 of Upper Arlington; past High Priest of the Community Chapter #227 of Upper Arlington; Columbus Council #8 RSM, Columbus, OH; active in the 20th Degree work of the Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite, Columbus, OH. Mr. Oliver was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Dayton, OH. He was past-president and still a member of the Church Council, present chairman of the Church Property Committee and head usher. He was also a member of the Parish Resource Center Board. His other community involvement includes precinct captain in the local Republican Party. He will be missed as a husband, father, grandfather, friend, and community leader. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 10:00 AM at the First Lutheran Church, Dayton. Burial in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Lewisburg, OH. Family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5 to 7:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering with Masonic and Scottish Rite services at 6:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Lutheran Church, 138 W. First St., Dayton, OH 45402-1101 in Kenneth R. Oliver’s name. Condolences may be sent via the website to www.routsong.com.
