BLACKER, Lawrence Neal, 82, of Dayton, OH, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, in Sarasota, FL.
He was a 1946 graduate of Bexley High School, Columbus, Ohio where he was captain of the varsity football team his senior year. In 1950 he graduated from The Ohio State University College of Business and was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. During the Korean War, he served his country as a Lieutenant JG in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Toledo, and U.S.S. Van Valkenburgh. After 30 years of dedicated employment in the comptroller's division of Inland General Motors, he retired in 1983.
In 1986, Neal and his wife Elly established The Mulberry Tree, Fine Stationery at Town and Country in Kettering, OH. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of fifty five years, Eleanor Patterson Blacker, his children Lawrence N. Blacker III, "Chip", of Xenia, OH; Elizabeth Blacker Burton, "Betsy", of Columbus, OH; Nancy Blacker Tynes and husband Lin of Richmond, VA, grandchildren Christopher and Ethan Burton, Andrew and Annie Tynes and faithful canine companion "Wally".
Neal was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Dorothy Kegelmayer, and daughter, Janie Blacker.
The family will hold a celebration of Neal's life Saturday November 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 North Main Street, Centerville, OH with Reverend Dr. Jack Millwood of Ponte Vedra FL officiating. Burial will follow at David's Cemetery, Kettering, OH. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
