Lewis Emery Cummings

March 31, 1904 — October 5, 2001

age 97 of Kettering, passed away Friday, October 5, 2001. Lewis graduated from Quincy High School in 1920, then attended Miami Jacobs Business College. Lewis was a long time member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was an accountant for DP&L for 19 years. Lewis retired from General Motors in 1969 after 27 years where he held various managerial positions. Lewis was a member of St. John's Lodge #13 and was a charter member of John W. Durst Lodge #716. He served in various capacities in the Blue Lodge. He was a member of the York Rite- Reed Commandery and was a Mason for 75 years. Lewis was also a member of the Shrine, the National Association of Accountants which he served as president of the local chapter, and is a past president of the Local Production Control Managers Association which he also served as a national director, and a past president of the Dayton Chapter of the Internal Auditors Association. He once served as an advisor to the Dayton School Board. He was on the boards of United Way, Grace United Methodist Church and the Senior Citizens Center, and numerous other civic organizations.He belonged to the Centerville Kiwanis . Lewis was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Cummings in 1989; 3 sisters and 2 brothers. He is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Richard (Dorothy) C. Cummings, and Frederick (Nonda) L. Cummings; Ellen Buchhagen; brother-in-law, Clem Butts brother and sister in-law, Frank (O'Greta) Cummings; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson and many special other family members.Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 11, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. in the Woodland Mausoleum. Reverend Bryan Palmer-Smith officiating. Entombment in Woodland Mausoleum. Family will receive friends Thursday from 1-2:00 P.M. at the Mausoleum. If desired contributions may be made to Cox Arboretum and Gardens Metro Park, c/o The Ruth Cummings Memorial Arbor Fund, 6733 Springboro Pike, Dayton, OH 45342 or the Montgomery County Historical Society, 224 N.
