CROTTY, Marilyn Ann (Hauer), age 83, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2015 at Hospice of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. Marilyn (Boots) was born on June 14 1931 in Mentor-On-The-Lake, Ohio to parents Michael and Ann Hauer (Servaites). The Hauer family was actively involved with Saint Agnes Parish located in the neighborhood of Dayton View. A graduate of Julienne High School, Marilyn continued to pursue studies at the University of Dayton where she would earn her Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1953. It was while she was a student at the University of Dayton where she would meet her future husband, L. William Crotty. They were married on April 18 1953 at Saint Agnes Catholic Church. Together they raised a family of seven children in Kettering, Ohio in a home that was always filled with laughter, love and an enjoyment for life that emanated from the couple's commitment to family, faith and each other. For many years, from 1983 to 2014, Marilyn and William were part-time residents of Hilton Head Island, SC with a home in Wexford Plantation. Marilyn's remarkable legacy of devoted spouse and mother was a direct reflection of her grace and the giving nature of her spirit. She was also actively involved in local community organizations that included the Dayton Children's Hospital Association and the Saint Joseph Children's Home of Dayton. She chaired and directed several successful fundraising events for both organizations, including the annual Cha-Cha Ball that provided significant contributions to the growth and expansion of Dayton Children's Hospital. Known for her unique combination of creativity, artistic vision and love of nature Marilyn was a master gardner. A member of the Four Seasons Garden Club of Dayton her gardens in Kettering were frequently opened for public tours due to the impressive display of horticultural artistry. The nurturing care and attention to detail were clearly evident in the natural beauty and peace that filled the green spaces touched by Marilyn's loving hands and her deep appreciation for the gifts of nature. Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of nearly 62 years, L. William Crotty, age 87. Her bothers Gerald and Donald. Her children and spouses, Kathleen Ann, Daniel William and Cindy, Kevin Michael and Karen, Robert Sean and Jane, Shane Fergus, James Patrick and Brian Francis and Cathleen. Seventeen grandchildren and spouses including Bridget Crotty of Dayton, OH, Dugan and Heather Crotty of Alexandria, VA; Kelly and Casey Hall of Dayton, OH, Kerry and Matt Bruggerman of Dayton, OH, Katie and Sean Duple of Dayton OH; Colin and Emily Crotty of Cincinnati, OH, Melissa and Dave Berry of Park City, Utah, Sean Crotty of Salt Lake City, Utah and Michael Crotty of Park City, Utah; Caroline Crotty of Atlanta, GA; Philip DeFraties of Denver, CO, Emma Crotty and Chloe Crotty, of Frisco, TX; Jack Crotty and fiancee' Courtney of South Lebanon, OH, William Crotty of Dayton, OH, Keegan Crotty and Carson Crotty of Hilton Head Island, SC. Eleven great-grandchildren including Willow and Scarlett; Stella, Penelope and Sophie; Kendall, Cameron and Caleb; Brayden, Bryce and John Patrick. Visitation will be Monday evening, March 30th 5PM to 8PM at the Routsong Funeral Home on Stroop Road in Kettering, OH. The funeral Mass, held on Tuesday March 31st at noon, will be presided by Fr. Jim Manning at St. Albert the Great Church in Kettering, OH. Pallbearers include Daniel Crotty, Kevin Crotty, Robert Crotty, Shane Crotty, James Crotty and Brian Crotty. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research and the Hospice of Dayton Foundation. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support in many heart-felt forms from friends and the community, and especially the exceptional and loving care of Hospice of Dayton. Let love hold. Through the passing of seasons, through the distances of the goodbyes, through the shadowlands of separation. Let love hold. Against all fear, all pain, all sorrow. Let love hold like a fortress in our hearts and endure like the sun.
