Marilyn Yvonne Glass Lusa

LUSA, Marilyn Yvonne Glass, age 91, of Washington Township, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. Marilyn was born on June 11, 1930, in New Boston, Ohio. Her late parents were Charles and Gladys Glass. Marilyn Glass attended Glenwood High School, New Boston, where she graduated ln 1948 with honors. She was married to John Lusa on June 16, 1951, for a happy marriage of many years.

Their children are Holly Lusa, who is a certified hand therapist and lives in Chicago, Illinois, with her husband, Mike Erzen, and Bradley Lusa, who is a physical therapist and lives in Los Angeles, California. Starting in the summer of 1948, Marilyn attended Rio Grande College, Rio Grande, Ohio, for two years and completed a teaching certificate for elementary education. At Rio Grande she was an athletic cheerleader, an officer of the Women's League and a member of the Homecoming Queen's court. It was at Rio Grande where she met her long-time husband, John Lusa. During summers she worked in the Williams shoe factory in Portsmouth, Ohio, to help earn her way through college. Following Rio Grande College she taught second grade in the New Boston system for a year in 1950-1951. She then attended Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, with her husband John. She was graduated in August of 1952 with a BS in elementary education. At Ohio University she was a member of Kappa Phi Methodist sorority. That fall she taught third grade at Highwood elementary school, Dayton. In late spring of 1953, she then followed John, an Army 2nd lieutenant, to Camp A. P. Hill, Virginia, where they lived in a lovely apartment in nearby Bowling Green. They were later transferred to Fort Lee, Virginia, and subsequently after John returned from Korea, Marilyn and their first-born Holly joined him at Schofield Army Barracks in Hawaii. After John's release from active duty they returned to Dayton. Marilyn substituted in Dayton schools for a few years while their children were young and until the youngest entered the first grade. She then taught third grade for six years in Beavercreek before they moved to Deerfield, Illinois, where she taught third grade in the Lake Forest, Illinois school system for l5 years. Shortly after retiring from the Lake Forest system, the Lusa family moved to Stow, Massachusetts. Marilyn enjoyed working in the Stow library for six years. Marilyn's mother lived with them for a number of years before passing away while in a nursing home in Hudson, Massachusetts. When John retired in 1992 from his publishing job in Massachusetts, they moved to Washington Township (Centerville), Ohio. Over the years she has been active in church affairs to include several terms on education committees. Upon her return to the Dayton area, she rejoined a Kettering Garden Club with her dear friends. She also continued her love of books by working at Wilkie's bookstore for a number of years until it closed. Early in their marriage, they were members of the Methodist Church before transferring to the Oak Creek United Church of Christ in 1964. In addition they were members of Trinity UCC in Deerfield, Boxborough Congregational Church in Massachusetts and since 1993 of David's United Church of Christ, Kettering, Ohio.

Family will greet friends Monday, December 27 from 10:00am-11:00am at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00am at the funeral home. Marilyn will be laid to rest in Dayton National Cemetery.
