Marjorie Phyllis Ryan

August 29, 1926 — July 29, 2022

Our dear mother, Marjorie Phyllis Ryan, or “Phyllis” as she was known, sadly passed away on July 29, 2022, at the age of 95. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. And she had so many friends, as she was the kindest, sweetest person you would ever have the pleasure to know, just ask the lovely staff who cared for her in her last months at Brookdale Oakwood.

Phyllis, who was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Charles Joseph Ryan. He was born in Flushing, New York, and passed away on December 5, 2021 at the age of 97, in Seneca, South Carolina. “Chuck” was a retired USAF Lt Colonel and pilot, who served his nation for over 20 years, including a year-long deployment to Vietnam. The two met at Michigan State Normal College where Chuck graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and Phyllis graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Chuck and Phyllis raised three children, Tim, Kevin and Colleen, but said goodbye to a fourth child, Scott Alan, at only 3 months of age. Chuck’s Air Force career took the Ryan’s to live in Delaware (twice), Japan, Okinawa, Illinois, then New Hampshire, Florida and South Carolina after his retirement in 1978, so their family and friends are scattered all across this great country. They are survived by their three adult children, many nieces and nephews, and their beloved cat, Pumpkin, who has made a home in Dayton, OH.

They are now reunited with their many family members, who met them both “just inside the Eastern Gate”.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service, at a later date, in Howell, Michigan, where most of Phyllis’ relatives still live, to include her younger brother, Malcom Hearl. Chuck and Phyllis will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, alongside their baby son, Scott Alan, who was interred there in 1965.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chuck and Phyllis’ memory to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420 or Prisma Health Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672.
