Mary Dietz

February 16, 1924 — July 26, 2017

DIETZ, Mary (Stamaty), formerly Mary Burns, age 93 of Kettering, died Wednesday July 26, 2017 at Hospice of Dayton. Survived by daughter and caregiver Janice; sister Melachrine Mel Murphy (Loren - Pete) of Florida; grandsons Scott Diebert, Jeff and Jason Parker; beloved nieces and nephew; grandchildren and many friends. Preceded in death by her parents, Socrates and Aristy Stamaty, sister Antonia Kalayano, husband of 39 years, Herbert Burns, and son from first marriage (Hugh Parker, deceased), Michael Parker, and most recent husband Ralph Dietz. She grew up an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church, and as a young woman, used her professionally trained operatic voice to sing in the church choir, was a member of GAPA, and a Sunday school teacher. She retired from her position of Payroll Clerk at LAU-Phillips Industries in 1986. She spent time gardening, hand painting of ceramics, creating a large collection of antique Santas and other items, doing embroidery, and enjoying her cats. In the early 1950s, she and her two sisters started a card club called Samba Club that continued with mostly the same ladies for over 30 years. When this club was retired, she enjoyed organizing the Lunch Bunch with the card club and other ladies who visited different restaurants in Dayton and surrounding cities. Mary was a resident of One Lincoln Park for 7 years, and met and married fellow resident Ralph Dietz. Her last 5 years were spent in the care of her daughter Janice, and she peacefully passed away during a short stay at Hospice of Dayton. She will be remembered mostly for her positive attitude, great smile, kind and generous heart, fun personality, classy sense of style, and the delicious Baklava she made for family and friends every Christmas season. Memorial services to be held at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, August 2, at Davids Cemetery Chapel with reception following. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to SICSA, other animal shelters or similar organizations in Marys memory to honor her love of animals.
