RHOADES, Mary E., age 91, of Xenia, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, January 11, 2023. She was born December 29, 1931 in Dayton, Ohio; the daughter of the late William D. and Emily L. (Howell) Patrick. Along with her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Delmer E. Rhoades; daughter, Jan Marie McCauley; brother, William R. Patrick; sister, Patricia Shapiro; stepson, Larry Rhoades; and granddaughter, Monica Rhoades. Mary is survived by her daughter, Charmaine Marcum; granddaughter, Carrie Marcum; great-grandchildren, Justin (Jamie) Marcum, Matthew Marcum, and Morgann Trimble; great-great-grandchildren, Sophia, Jace, Avalynn, Alivia, Briell, Jenson, and Haisley; beloved son-in-law, Mark Marcum; stepson Jeff (Kathy) Rhoades; Jeff’s 3 children; and numerous extended family members and friends.


Mary graduated in 1950 from Bath Township High School in Fairborn. She worked at Fairborn Central School as a secretary as well as Scott Equipment, Dayton, Ohio. Mary managed an apartment complex in Columbus, Ohio until her retirement. She was also a certified hypnotherapist. Mary was involved with Parents without Partners, Dayton Ohio Chapter, where she met the love of her life, Del. Mary and her husband retired and moved to Florida. In her free time, she loved doing ceramics, painting, photography, and being involved in her community clubhouse at Mid-Florida Lakes, Leesburg, Florida. She volunteered for a literacy program where she tutored adults in Florida as well as the Dayton suicide prevention hotline. Mary was a member of Abiding Christ Lutheran Church, Fairborn, Ohio and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Leesburg, Florida. She will be greatly missed by her family who will remember her as a loving mother and grandmother.


A memorial service will be held at Abiding Christ, Fairborn, Ohio on Sunday, January 29th at 2:00PM with a fellowship meal to follow. Services entrusted to Routsong Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made out to Crossroads Hospice for their care to Mary.
