Mary Rita Agnes Malott

MALOTT, Mary Rita, age 95, of 10 Wilmington Place, Dayton, OH, formerly of North Port, FL, passed away on January 7, 2017. She was born on August 2, 1921, in Dayton, OH to Joseph and Minnie (Seitz) Rose. Mary Rita grew up in Dayton and graduated from Parker Co-op High School in 1939. She was a secretary for Bill Lear, inventor of the Lear Jet. During WWII she worked for the Army Ordinance Division at Wright-Patterson AFB. She married Army Staff Sgt. Prather F. Malott on May 30, 1942. They lived in Dayton after his discharge from the Army. In 1956 they built a new home in Xenia, OH. In 1982 they retired and moved to Florida. Prather was a tool-and-die maker at NCR for 18 years and was also a building contractor, helping to rebuild Xenia after the deadly tornado in 1974. Mary Rita was his bookkeeper and secretary for 25 years. They were faithful members of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Venice, FL. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, and a charter lifetime member of the Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of the Auxiliary of the North Port Moose Lodge. In 2015 Mary Rita moved back to Dayton, OH to live near her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by two grandchildren, Cynthia Ann (Richard) Blake of Xenia, OH and Scott Allin (Lisa) Malott of Kettering, OH; five great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Gabriel, MaKara, Harrison, and Lucia; her sister, Elvira Goldschmidt of Dayton, OH; and sister-in-law, Eileen Rose of Dayton, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Prather in 1993; her son, William (Bill) Malott in 2010; an infant son; her sister, Delores Mote; and brother, Joseph Rose. A funeral service will be held at 4:00pm on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH with a reception to follow. Burial will be at Venice Memorial Gardens on Center Rd. in Venice, FL at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pink Ribbon Girls, 15 South Second Street, Tipp City, OH 45371.
