Reflections from Matthew’s Mom, Dad and family.

On this day, Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Matthew Malacos made his way to Heaven. He will never be away from us, his family, because we all know - each of us – that he loved us with a love that cannot be harnessed or dampened by earthly bounds. His caring and compassion are beyond description. He learned at an early age that compliments were to be given, love to be stated and levity to be found. Matt was the “Go-to Guy” in our family and at his workplace. He was never too busy, never had his own needs, and never said no. Our world will be different. It will be more difficult. But we will learn from this loss to appreciate the moments in life where we smile at each memory.

He was a devoted, understanding, and proud father. Michael, Marc, and Bentley were the absolute blessings in his life and he let them know it. Dawn was the love of his life from high school and she completed the circle. Amy, his sister, never lacked a brother who played all the roles – pestering brother, over-protective watchdog, and supportive counselor.

His work mates in Troy and all of MIT made his work a pleasure. We thank each of you and the Jones family. Beth, Leslie and all of Matt’s fellow workers made his workday not only productive, but enjoyable.

And for us, Moni and George, his parents, there are no words to describe what he has meant to us over all of these too short years. He was proud of us; he thought we were cool; he wanted to be like us when he grew up. How do we know? He told us. All the time. He was the family cheerleader – his nephews and nieces could always glance to the sidelines and see Uncle Matt there – so proud, so loving. Life will be different, but we will rise above the difficult times with Matt by our sides. His good advice will come to us, his jokes will be heard, his love will envelop us.

Gone to soon. Gave so much. Asked so little. God took home one of his best and most creative sons today.
