Maura A. Hamilton

June 14, 1957 — November 11, 2020

HAMILTON, Maura Anne, age 63, of Kettering, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020. Maura was born on June 14th, 1957 to James and Mary (Stroehlin) Weir in Meridan, Connecticut. When she was still young, they moved to Ohio. They went back to Connecticut often, and she had many fond memories of visiting her aunts, uncles, and cousins. She spent most of her childhood in Kettering, Ohio, with the notable exception of time spent in Colorado. She graduated from Fairmont East High School in 1975.

Maura then went on to study dietetics at the College of Mount Saint Joseph, where she made many lifelong friends. She graduated in 1979 and went to Indianapolis to do an internship at Methodist Hospital. She then returned to Ohio, where she later received her master’s degree in education from Central Michigan University through Wright Patterson remote learning.

For 40 years, Maura worked as a registered dietitian. Over the years she worked in many facets including long-term care, outpatient facilities, acute care, respite care, and education. She was a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

In 1984, she met Edward Hamilton, and they married in 1985. Together, they had two children, Mary, and Patrick. The family spent most of the time in Ohio, except for a two-year period when they lived in Colorado Springs.

Always a devout Catholic, for the last ten years, Maura was an active member of Ascension Catholic Church in Kettering, where she helped in the garden, and baked food for funeral luncheons.

Over the years, Maura was involved in many charitable works. One more recent passion was the Ronald McDonald House.

She loved nature, especially the beach; doing yoga and walking the dogs; and spending time with her grandchildren, who idolized her.

Above all, Maura was a kind and generous person. She was a good friend to many, a loving wife, a loyal sister, a wonderful mother, and a fantastic grandmother. She will be greatly missed.

She is predeceased by her parents James and Mary (Stroehlin) Weir; uncles Bernard (Jennie) Weir, John (Rosemary) Weir, and Edward Weir; and aunt Genevieve (John) Roche.

She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years Edward; daughter Mary (Thomas) Vaughn, and their children Edward, Liliana, Rosaleigh, David, and a granddaughter on the way; son Patrick; sister Deborah Weir; aunt Claire (Edward) Reynolds; and a host of cousins and extended family in Connecticut.

Family will greet friends Tuesday, November 17 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 18, at 10:30am at Ascension Catholic Church, 2025 Woodman Dr., Kettering.
