Patricia Shively

March 4, 1955 — October 3, 2015

Patricia Lynn (Breakfield) Shively, of Kettering, passed Saturday, October 3, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. She faced the disease with courage, showing us how to live gracefully until the very end. She was born March 4, 1955 in Dayton, the eldest daughter of the late Charles and Joan (Griffin) Breakfield. She attended Patterson Co-Op and secured a job at Delco Moraine and then Delco Products where she worked as a secretary for 14 years. After raising her children, she began work at J.E. Prass Elementary, teaching reading and writing skills to the younger grades. Her retirement was filled with treasured family trips to the beach and traveling adventures across the country. She loved traveling, playing cards, telling and hearing good stories, reading, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, David Shively; her daughter Michelle Shively, her son and daughter-in-law Chris and Stephanie Shively; her stepson and daughter-in-law Scott and Sarah Shively, and her stepdaughter and son-in-law Angie and Mike Fox. One of her greatest joys in life was being Nana and Grandma to her five grandchildren, Abby and Carmen Shively, Emily Fox, and Matthew and Noelle Shively and a granddog, Teddy. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law Kay and John Magee and her brother and sister-in-law Chuck and Jeannette Breakfield; father-in-law and mother-in-law Lloyd and Glenna Shively; and four brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Dale and Susan Shively, Bob and Lynn Shively, Barb and John Hellard, and Ray and Lori Shively. She was blessed by a large extended family, leaving behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Mark Breakfield; two nieces: Rachel (Breakfield) Forbes and Lezlie Shively; and many dear aunts and uncles. A celebration of Pat's life will be held on Saturday, October 10th at 3:00 pm at Routsong Funeral Home on Stroop Rd. in Kettering. Friends may call from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday before the celebration. Memorials to honor Pat and her life may be made to Hospice of Dayton or the American Cancer Society. Although she didn't need Hospice, she always appreciated their services and the love and care shown to her family members during times of need.
