Peirce "Pete" Faxon Woodward

WOODWARD, Peirce Faxon "Pete", age 69, of Kettering passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015. He was born on September 15, 1946 in Dayton to the late Robert and Dorothy (nee Coolidge) Woodward. Pete graduated from Oakwood High School in 1964 and attended Rollins College and Wright State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. Upon graduation Pete enlisted in the US Navy and spent 4 years assigned to Norfolk, VA Atlantic Command. He spent 2 years in the Naval Reserve and received an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Third Petty Officer. After his naval service Pete embarked on a banking career by joining the Training Program at Winters National Bank. During his time there Winters became part of Bank One and Pete eventually rose to be Assistant Vice President, Commercial Financial Services with a portfolio of $50 million in loan commitments. In 1993 Pete joined the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Miamisburg, Ohio. He enjoyed a successful career there until his retirement in 2011 as Senior Vice President. Pete was a member of the Dayton and Miamisburg Rotary, Ye Old Buz Fuz, Moraine Country Club, Miamisburg Merchants Association, Centerville Rod and Reel, Dayton History at Carillon where he was active with the new brewery. In his retirement Pete became an enthusiastic member of the Carillon. He delighted in assisting there for 4 years. He had many hobbies which included cooking, fishing, stamp and coin collecting, and taking his '66 Shelby Cobra to local car shows. Pete was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Scott Laing Woodward, in 1990. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Kristin Dehner Woodward; children, Janet "Emmie" (Robert) Fellows of Kettering and Stephen (Jennifer) Dehner of Ft. Brag; granddaughter, Grace; sister, Deborah (Harry) Billings of Massachusetts; niece, Dorothy Billings of New York; mother and father-in-law, Marilyn and Dr. Gerard Dehner of Dayton; brother-in-law, Gerard Dehner Jr of Cincinnati; sister-in-law, Kimberly (Scott) Davis and their daughters Lily and Mae of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews as well as members of the Laing family. Family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00pm on Monday, September 21, 2015 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 33 W. Dixon Ave., Oakwood. Burial at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420 or the Dayton History Fund, 1000 Carillon Blvd., Dayton, OH 45409.
