ERNST, Richard J. Dick, 82, of Centerville, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. Richard was born in Buffalo, New York, and graduated from Syracuse University.
From 1957 - 59, he served his country in the United States Army, PFC, 1st Battle Group, 28th Inf. HQ. Richard served his community throughout his lifetime. He was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Kettering, serving as a Deacon, Usher, Trustee, and a member of Emmanuel Academy School Board. He was also active with Project Blessing meal ministry in downtown Dayton. Richard was an avid runner and reader, especially of world history, and had season tickets to the Dayton Philharmonic. Richard also enjoyed spending time with his beloved dog Bootsie.
He is survived by his children Jeffrey (Maryellen), Lisa (Bruce), and Leslie Alford (Robert), and grandson Joseph. Richard was preceded in death by his former wife Susan Ann (nee Carty), brother Robert Ernst, and loving partner Willa Jeanne Traucht.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 31 from 9:30-11:30am at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 4865 Wilmington Pike, Kettering, Ohio (45440), with a service to follow. Burial at Dayton National Cemetery.
