Rignal "Rig" W. Duncan

August 22, 1947 — November 18, 2021

DUNCAN Jr., Rignal “Rig” W., age 74, of Kettering, OH, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Rig was born on August 22, 1947 to the late Rignal W. and Helen (Taft) Duncan, in Atlanta, GA. He lived his life in a friendly and kindhearted manner, emblematic of the Southern man he was. His family lived in many parts of the US including Charlotte NC where he graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in 1965. Rig went on to pursue his education at Georgia Institute of Technology, majoring in Mechanical Engineering, and graduating in 1970. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and a close associate of George P. Burdell. While at Georgia Tech, Rig met the love of his life, Mary McKnight, whom he married in 1970. He continued his education at Georgia State University and earned his Masters in Business Administration in 1973. Rig’s career in the then-developing field of Management Information Systems took the young family to Michigan, Florida, Oklahoma, and Ohio. They settled in the Dayton area in 1986. Throughout the years, he worked with numerous companies, including Huffy Corp., Reynolds & Reynolds, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Logtec, Inc. to improve their systems. In his retirement, Rig stayed active by voraciously reading his favorite sci-fi books, enjoying college sports (especially Georgia Tech football), and engaging with shoppers at Walmart and Kroger through product demonstrations. He was happiest when spending time with his family and enjoying his grandsons’ extracurricular activities. His sweet, intelligent, and kind personality will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Rig was preceded in death by his parents and beloved dog, Gen.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Duncan; children, Kelly (Elmer Paredes) Duncan, Rignal “Trip” (Kami) Duncan III, Scott Duncan, and Lindsey (Robert Hoover) Duncan; grandsons, Jackson Duncan and Rignal “Wiley” Duncan IV; as well as numerous extended family and friends in Ohio and Florida.

The family would like to thank Pastor Dan Borgelt for all of his support, care, and spiritual guidance throughout the years and especially during the last several weeks. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Kirkmont Church, 3377 Shakertown Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45434. A private family remembrance will be held at a later date.
