Robert Duaine Isaacs

ISAACS, Robert "Bob/Bobby" Duaine, 86, of Dayton, passed away at The Wellington at Dayton, Monday, December 30, 2013. Bobby was born in Travelers Rest, Owsley County, Kentucky on March 18, 1927 to James Otis Isaacs, Sr. and Myrtle (nee Wilson) Isaacs. He is a graduate of Owsley County High School, Booneville, Kentucky; R.E.T.S. School of Electronics, Dayton, Ohio; and Universal Tool and Die Trade School. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 17 and served as a Gunners Mate on the USS McDermut Battleship, in the South Pacific during WWII. He was in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese Instrument Surrender was signed on the USS Missouri. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Masonic Order, Eastern Star, and attended Spinning Road Baptist Church. He loved flying and was a licensed pilot. He also enjoyed hunting wild boar, and pheasant, the Indy 500 Race, Blue Grass music, and square dancing. He and Norma traveled the world, including sailing on the Queen Elizabeth II to England, returning on the Concorde from Paris to Dayton. He was the first pilot to land a plane at, what was then, the new Greene County Airport. He was a Journeyman in is Tool and Die Making Trade, designing and building tools and dies for the original Princess Telephone, as well as the mechanism to dispense coins for the NCR Cash Register. He is proceeded in death by his parents; a brother, James Otis Jr; sisters, Beverly Wood and Betty Hammons; and a great nephew, Liam Isaacs. He is survived by his beloved wife, Norma Jean (nee Judd) Isaacs of 64 years; sister, Joyce (Jimmy) Neuner, of Boca Raton, Florida; brother, Omar (Phyllis) Isaacs, of Dacula, Georgia; 3 nieces, Gayle Nickell and Diane Kasarda of Middletown, Ohio, and Jill Hanson, of Sugar Hill, Georgia; nephew, Bill Isaacs, of Lawrenceville, Georgia; 5 great nieces, 2 great nephews, and 2 great great nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm-3:00pm, on Friday, January 3, 2014, and again on Saturday, January 4, 2014, from 1:00-2:00pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd, Kettering, Ohio 45429. Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on January 4, 2014, at the funeral home, with a committal service at Woodland Cemetery.
