WILLIAMS, Robert E., age 90, died on June 17th, 2016, in Columbus Ohio. Bob was born September 28, 1925 in Hollansburg, Ohio (Darke County). He was a long time resident of Beavercreek (over 50 years) and Centerville, Ohio and, for the last nine years, resided at First Community Village in Columbus. He was a career employee of General Motors at Delco Products and DISA in Dayton. Bob was a committed servant of public education for over 25 years, having been elected to the Beavercreek Board of Education, Green County Board of Education, Greene Joint Vocational School Board and (for 13 years) the 7th Congressional District Representative to the State of Ohio Board of Education. A longtime member of the Beavercreek Church of the Brethren and, subsequently, Kirkmont Presbyterian Church in Beavercreek and Fairmont Presbyterian Church in Kettering, he was involved in the financial boards of his churches and the South Western Ohio Presbytery. Mr. Williams was a veteran of WWII, serving in France with the 328th Combat Team of the 26th (Yankee) Division. He and his unit landed on Utah Beach in August of 1944, the first American unit to sail directly from New York Harbor directly to Normandy, France. He was awarded the Bronze Star for action in France. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Yankee Division Veterans Association. Bob was a graduate of Miami University and received his MBA from Xavier University. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 47 years, Mary (Moore) Williams, and his second wife, Eleanor (Sherry-Job) Williams. He is survived by 3 sons, David (Diane) of Evanston, Illinois, Richard (Donna) of Upper Arlington, Ohio, and Kent (Lisa) of Hillsborough, North Carolina. Also surviving are grandchildren Melissa Day (Eric) of Blue Ash, Ohio, Lauren of Doylestown, PA, Sean of Hillsborough, NC, Kelli of Asheboro, NC, and great granddaughter Stella in Blue Ash, OH. The family will receive family and friends at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering on Friday June 24, 2016, beginning at 10AM, with services at 11AM. Interment will follow at the Mt. Zion-Shoup Cemetery.
