Sherrie Cory

September 3, 1941 — July 11, 2022

On July 11, 2022, the world lost a cherished and special woman, Sherrie Cory. Sherrie passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love, care, and comfort of her family.
Sherrie was born in Adrian, Michigan September 3, 1941. She was the oldest daughter of the late Dot and Charles Cory. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill McCullough and brother Jack Cory. She cared deeply for her family and leaves two daughters, Deborah Hurst (Jim) of Waynesville, OH, and Elizabeth Cory (Glenn Maller) of Wilbraham, MA; 5 grandchildren Nicholas Bentley (Jo), Cadi Dart (Garrick), Arianne Messer (Mark), Eli Maller, and Jaclyn Maller; 8 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends and blended family members whose lives she touched, including the very special longtime bond she had with the Silverstein family.
Sherrie is survived by her sister, Victoria Papenhagen, and brother, Charles Cory (Gina). She graduated from Blissfield High School and attended the University of Michigan (she was an avid Wolverine fan and her license read GO BLEU 2). Later, she graduated from University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in English and went on to obtain a Master's degree in Social Work from Wright State University. Sherrie was a trail blazer who had a career filled with variety and impressive accomplishments. In 1968, she worked in the Pentagon for the Computer Science Corporation as one of only five women then employed by the company. Her favorite job was at Greene Hall as Director of Employee Health, where she supported people in their recovery from substance use disorders. Later in her career she continued to help people with addiction through her private therapy practice. Sherrie was a lifetime member of Alcohol Anonymous, and said that "it saved my life." She was a member of AA for 44 years and through the years she had numerous sponsees that she encouraged and supported in their sobriety.
Sherrie was immensely proud of her daughters' Deb and Liz, who are both Advanced Practice Nurses. They were instrumental in helping her through her illness of Aplastic Anemia over the last 4 years.
Sherrie will be remembered by for her kind heart and adventurous spirit. Over her life she lived abroad in two different countries (Germany and Greece), traveling to many places when she was young. Sherrie was a person who loved people just the way they were. She opened her heart and embraced people as family, from all different backgrounds, religions, races, and ethnicities. She lived by the moto “Love has no color."
Her Celebration of Life will be held at Routsong in Kettering Ohio on Saturday, July 16 at 4:00 p.m., and visitation will be held from 3:00pm-4:00pm. The service may be attended on Routsong Funeral Home’s YouTube page.
