ANDREWS, Valerie (Olson), passed away on Friday, August 5, 2016. Valerie was born in Eagle Bend, Minnesota on May 3, 1932 to Ray and Cecelia (Zeug) Olson. She graduated from St. Peter High School and from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. She taught briefly at E. J. Brown School in Dayton and as a substitute teacher in the Kettering Schools. Valerie was a member of David's United Church of Christ and served as an Elder and as President of the Church Council. While raising her three children, Valerie served many years as a Girl Scout troop leader and civic volunteer. In 1992 she was named City of Kettering Volunteer of the Year. An avid and extraordinarily talented quilter, she was a member of the Monday Morning Quilters at Polen Farm and also quilted regularly with her many friends at David's United Church of Christ. Valerie spent many hours delivering Meals on Wheels to those in need and trained her children in community service by taking them with her to do odd jobs for the shut-ins. Valerie and her husband, Tim traveled extensively. They visited all 50 states, more than 80 countries and all seven continents. One of Valerie's favorite journeys was a trip she and her husband took to Eastern Europe with their children and grandchildren to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Valerie treasured her relationships with her Norwegian relatives. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, her Step-mother, Ethel (Holteen) Olson and her brothers, Ray and Keith. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, W. Tim Andrews; her daughter Jenny of Bellevue, WA; her daughter Nancy and her husband, Joe Collins of Kettering; her son Tim II and his wife, Kathy of Cincinnati; several beloved nieces and nephews in Minnesota and Ohio and a host of wonderful friends whom she adored. Val's special joy was her three grandchildren, Ben Lawry, Jennifer Heminger and Tim Andrews, III. Throughout their lives, Valerie built and maintained deep and unique relationships with each of her grandchildren who adored their time with Grandma. Valerie was a friend to everyone she ever met and gifted in making everyone around her feel special. She was a woman of deep faith and boundless love.
