Vasiliki S. Vlahos

VLAHOS, Vasiliki, age 76, departed to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 15, 2015. Born in Athens, Greece to Leonidas and Stella Kanelli, she is preceded in death by both her parents, her husband of 52 years, Stratos G. Vlahos, and her sister Boula of Athens, Greece. Vasiliki came to the United States with her husband and two sons in October 1966, and became an American Citizen in 1974. She gave birth to her daughter Stella here in Dayton, Ohio in 1971. She was an accomplished tailor, a profession she perfected for more than 30 years. She worked for traditional clothiers in Dayton, including former men's stores, War War's and D.H. Peer, and the Elder Beerman Stores. She also ran her own business, Bette's Sewing Shop, in downtown Dayton, for nearly 15 years. Vasiliki will always be remembered for her warmth and kindness, both to her family, friends, and customers. She especially adored her children and grandchildren, and loved spending time with them at their homes. Cooking Greek food was a specialty of hers, and she kept all her secrets stored in the family's famous "tselemente." This book is a treasure filled with Mom's great recipes to be enjoyed and passed on for generations to come. Her greatest accomplishment by far was her children. They meant everything to her. And, she was the devoted, loving wife of Stratos, giving her all to ensure that her family had a good life. Vasiliki is survived by her children, Pete Vlahos (Stephanie Buirley), George Vlahos (Suzanne), and Stella Franchina (Joseph); and her grandchildren, Alexia, Vasiliki, Helen, Matthew, and Emily. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten in our hearts. Viewing will be held at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering from 4PM to 7PM Thursday, February 19, with Trisagion Services starting at 5PM. Service at the Greek Orthodox Church at 9:30AM Friday, February 20 immediately followed by burial at Woodland Cemetery.
