Victor Hobden

HOBDEN, Victor Norman, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. Victor was born April 6, 1928 in Swampscott, Massachusetts to Wilfrid and Edith (Beacock) Hobden. He attended Tufts University on scholarship and received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering before being drafted into the Army. Following his service he worked for General Electric for 33 years. Later he worked for Leece-Neville and Siemens before retiring from Siemens in 1995. Victor and his wife Nancy (Cousens) were wed on Dec. 19, 1951 and spent 64 years together. During this time they lived in several different places, including Rotterdam & Glenville, New York; Hendersonville, Tennessee; N. Olmsted, Ohio; N. Little Rock, Arkansas; and most recently the Dayton, Ohio area. He was an avid hiker and even joined the 46ers club after hiking the 46 tallest peaks in the Adirondack Mountains, as well as volunteering for the Boy Scouts. He also was active in various churches, teaching at Union Presbyterian Church in Schenectady, NY, and doing many repairs and improvements at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in N. Little Rock, AR. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nancy, his son, David Hobden, his brother, Richard Hobden, and his sisters Joyce Kemmerer and Norma Chase. He is survived by four of his children, Debra (Doug Long) Klensch of Bellbrook, OH, Diana (Michael Barr) Hobden of Athens, OH, Laurel Hobden of Columbus, OH, and Jonathan Hobden, of Allen, TX, six grandchildren, and his sisters Donna Landry of Myerstown, PA and Carol Hobden of Amesbury, MA. A visitation will be held from 2-3pm on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Routsong Funeral Home Kettering, 2100 East Stroop Rd Kettering, 45429, with a service to follow at 3pm. Inurnment will take place this coming summer in Effingham Falls, New Hampshire. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale of Washington Township and the Carlyle House of Oakwood for all their dedicated care of Victor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420.
