Wallace "Jeff" Jefferson Lord

October 4, 1929 — February 3, 2015

LORD, Wallace "Jeff" Jefferson, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at home. He lived in Centerville for the past 15 years and in Kettering from 1966 to 2000 and was born and raised in South Georgia. Jeff earned an associate's degree in engineering from Southern Technical University in Atlanta, Georgia, and started working for Western Union in 1958. He was a site manager at DESC for many years until he retired in 1993. Jeff was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was deeply loved by his family. A true Southern gentleman, he charmed everyone he met. His wit and intelligence were unforgettable, as was his remarkable memory. He was an avid reader and a Civil War buff and had a wide variety of interests, including politics, history, and computers, and was fascinated by new technology. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954 as a radio operator and repairman, which started his lifelong hobby as an amateur ham radio operator. Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Joel Jefferson Lord, and mother, Inez Ellis Hand Lord, both of Hazlehurst, Georgia, and his sister, Joan Keaton (Roy), of Tobaccoville, North Carolina. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Lord; daughters Lisa Lord of Brunswick, Georgia, and Linda Lord of Columbus, Ohio; grandson, Daniel Jefferson de Roziere of Indianapolis, Indiana; sons-in-law Timothy Berens of Waynesville, Ohio, and Edward Parrett, Jr. of Brunswick, Georgia; and brothers James Lord of Auburn, Georgia, John (Barb) Lord of Glen St. Mary, Florida, and Jerold (Ann) Lord of Centerville, Georgia. The family would like to thank the staff of Kettering Hospital, DaVita Dialysis Center at Bigger Road, and Hospice of Dayton for their kindness and dedication and say a special thank you to Dr. Arthur Tsai, Dr. Niranjan Reddy, and Dr. Cleanne Cass for their expertise and compassion in caring for Jeff. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, Ohio, 45420.
