Albert R. Pieper, Jr. of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2026 surrounded by his family.
Born in 1938 in Stamford, Connecticut, Al was a beloved family man, a remarkable and caring businessman, and a patron on the arts and his community. After college (Dartmouth,’60), and a brief stint in the Army, he married his true love, Lousia Plumb, and moved to Ann Arbor in 1968. He braved the commute to Detroit for nearly three decades, eventually becoming the General Manager of Stanley Electronics (a division of Stanley Tools). He got his MBA from Michigan State while working full time and raising a family.
He loved the theater, gourmet cooking, good mystery novels, and reading the NYTimes cover to cover, especially on Sundays with a bagel and lots of black coffee. In his retirement, he loved walking his dogs, lunching with his buddies, working out, and being Grandpa. He worked the polls during elections, rode in the truck for Food Gatherers to stock the food shelf, helped at the Michigan Theater, and worked at Ten Thousand Villages, to name a few of his volunteering wonders.
His warm smile lit up a room and his kindness made those around him want to be good. Friends described him as a true gentleman and the smartest person they knew. And boy could he dance. As a teenager, he even appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. He was wonderfully optimistic and always there for a comforting word, a hug, or a good laugh when you needed it most. He was a fun-loving, beautiful soul who made the world brighter and sweeter every day.
Al is survived by his daughters, Lisa Pieper Brown (Scott Brown) and Gillian Pieper (Karen Pike), and his grandchildren: Amanda Brown Piccirilli (Kevin Piccirilli), Jessica Brown Sanders (Shane Sanders), Sarah Brown (Eddie Pelka), James Pieper-Lococo (Whitney Charbonneau), and step-grandkids: Emma Riesner (George Kirkorian), and David Riesner, and his great-grandchildren: Reagan, Samuel, Lyla, Ava, and Jacob. He is predeceased by his wife, Lousia Plumb Pieper, his brother Donald Pieper, and his parents, Mary Camelon Pieper and Albert Pieper, Sr.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
