Annamae Spidel

May 17, 1918 — January 11, 2012

SPIDEL, Annamae (Grimes) age 93, of Dayton passed away on January 11, 2012. After graduating from Julieanne High School in 1936 Mrs. Spidel worked for several local companies as a secretary before being hired at Wright Field, where she worked as a stenographer during WWII. During those years she volunteered for the Red Cross by rolling bandages and preparing medical packages that were then sent to the soldiers over seas. When her finance', Lewis E. Spidel, returned from the war they were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in downtown Dayton. Throughout her lifetime she volunteered at her children's schools, supported many philanthropic organizations, and enjoyed many activities with friends/family. She was an avid reader and never forgot an author she liked. Annamae will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lewis E. Spidel; her parents George and Clara (Lyons) Grimes, of Dayton, Ohio, and by her only sibling, George Grimes, Jr. Annamae is survived by their children, Louise Pacheco of Bonaire, GA, Susan (Tom) Allen of Bellbrook, OH, Mark (Karin) Spidel of San Diego, CA and Guy (Jenny) Spidel of Monroe, GA; grandchildren, Lisa (Tom) Tonn of Panama City, FL, Dhana Pacheco of Bonaire, GA, Michael (Velma) Allen of Belize, Central America, Joseph (Calliope) Allen of San Diego, CA, Erin (Spidel) Turner of Marietta, GA, Somer (Michael) Gates of San Diego, CA, Zachary, Jacob and Rachel Spidel all of Englewood, OH; great grandchildren, Benjamin and Linda Tonn both of Panama City, FL, BethAnn Pacheco of Bonaire, GA, Max Marie Allen and Noel Ann Allen both of San Diego, CA, and Michael T. Allen, Jr. of Belize, Central America, Adelaide Gates of San Diego, CA, and many other nieces and nephews. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel at Calvary Cemetery on Thursday, February 9, 2012, and final words at the grave site. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.routsong.com.
