Barbara Baron Briggs

BRIGGS, Barbara Baron, age 83, formerly of Waynesville, North Carolina passed away peacefully Thursday, May 23, 2024. Barbara was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1940 to Jack and Margret Fenlason. She is preceded in death by her husband John Briggs, her son Michael Richard, and her brother John Fenlason.  

Barbara was a graduate of Nyack College where she married Richard Smith and subsequently left for Indonesia as a missionary with The Christian and Missionary Alliance. She later married John Briggs where they served in Haiti and then returned to North Carolina to begin a spiritual counseling and Restoration Ministries.  

She was known by everyone as a prophetic counselor, prayer warrior, and minister to the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Even in retirement, she continued to pray with, counsel with and serve everyone around her at Morning Star, The Laurels and The Suites of Walnut Creek. She never could sit still always wanting to help in some way. She loved people always looked for a opportunity to be in fellowship.

Barbara is survived by her eldest son, David (Kathy) Smith, her daughter Brenda Smith, son Jonathan Smith and 12 grandchildren.  She leaves a legacy of service, selfless living and love for her family.

The family would like to thank the staff of Walnut Creek, Vitas Health Care and Routsong Funeral home for all the care for mom’s transition to her eternal home. A private family memorial service will be planned in Waynesville, North Carolina to celebrate her life with family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be given to Fairhaven Church Centerville’s Offering of Compassion at https://login.fairhaven.church/page/1375?guest=1
