Much loved by family and friends, Betty Jean Schwinn passed away peacefully on October 24, 2023, at Bethany Village in Centerville, Ohio, at the age of 92. Born in Dayton, Ohio, Betty was a lifelong resident of the Dayton area. She graduated from Oakwood High School where she had a passion for field hockey and, subsequently, continued her education in nursing, graduating from the Good Samaritan School of Nursing a few years later. With an abiding interest in helping people, Betty practiced nursing for all of her professional life. She and her husband, Ed, were avid readers and frequent visitors to the Oakwood Library who also enjoyed volunteering at the polls on Election Day and exploring Smith Gardens. Without question, the high point of Betty’s travel life came in 2004, when, on a trip to Paris, Betty’s therapeutic Z- Coil shoes were lauded enthusiastically on the Left Bank as a daring, fashion-forward statement. Betty and Ed moved from Oakwood to Bethany later in life with their two cats. Before and after the move, Betty and her cats shared an interest in birds which they enjoyed watching together.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, James W. and Etoil F. Hale, and her husband of 62 years, Edward A. Schwinn.
Betty is survived by her son, James E. Schwinn, and his wife, Laura.
The family wishes to thank Bethany Village and Hospice of Dayton for their supportive and loving care.
The family will hold a private service of reflection in the near future and asks that, in lieu of flowers, you to consider a donation to Hospice of Dayton.
