BURKS, Charles Warner, age 85, formerly of Kettering, Ohio passed away Monday, July 31, 2023 in Columbus, Ohio surrounded by family. He was born August 1, 1937 in Wilder Tennessee and moved to Dayton with his family when he was four years old. A graduate of Stivers High School and an employee of General Motors in Vandalia for over 40 years where he was a Quality Control Specialist. He was also the owner and operator of the Avalon Bar and Grill in Dayton for many years. He was a member of the Milton Athletic Club where he enjoyed spending time with friends. Charles enjoyed cooking, gardening, listening to music, especially Elvis and the Eagles. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds, OSU football and the Cleveland Browns. Being with his family was most import to him.
He was a loved husband, father and grandfather/Pop-O. He adored his grandchildren and loved being with them as often as possible. Proceeded in death by his parents Warner and Myrtle Burks, two sisters Maxine Caughey and Virginia Smith and two brothers Ray and Dean Burks. He is survived by his wife Rena; daughter Jaime (Jeremy); sons Steve (Connie) and Robert (Juanita); seven grandchildren, Cora, Charlotte, Callee, Matt, Nick, Brittany and Eric; two great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends from 11:30AM-1PM on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering with a funeral to follow with Brian Bennett officiating. Burial at Woodland Cemetery.
