SCHAPEL, Robert “Bob”, age 87, of Kettering, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2026. Bob was born May 19, 1939, in Cleveland to the late Charles and Irene (Torma) Schapel.
Bob was proud of his career as a lineman for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, a job that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication. He also served our country in the Coast Guard. Bob loved his wife, Lenore, and together they created a beautiful family, raising three wonderful children: Renee, Jill, and Randy. He found joy in being a father and, later, a grandfather and great-grandfather. His legacy of love will carry on through them. A man of deep faith, Bob was a longtime member of St. Anthony of Padua in Parma and had been a familiar face at Ascension Catholic Church for the last 12 years. He believed in community, volunteerism, and enjoyed those around him. His generosity knew no bounds—he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Bob was a family man who enjoyed the outdoors. Whether he was fishing, taking long walks, or enjoying family trips to the lake, ocean, or on cruises, he loved every moment spent with his family and friends.
Bob will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His warmth, kindness, and sense of humor made a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He will be fondly remembered.
Along with his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lenore, sister, Ruth Gallagher, parents-in-law Leonard and Doris Krawczyk, brother-in-law Leonard Krawczyk, George Gallagher, and George Metz. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Renee Schapel, Jill (Nicholas) Hosford, and Randy (Sharon) Schapel; grandchildren, Melissa (Zach) Marflak, Lisa (Jeremy) Ciehanoski, Lauren (Joe) Falsone, Ethan Hosford, Jacob (Kimberly) Hosford, Timothy (Sophia) Hosford, Andrew Hosford, Katie Hosford, Marcus Hosford, Daniel Schapel, and Grace Schapel; great-grandchildren, Loralei Hosford and Elowyn Hosford; siblings, Dorothy Metz, Richard Schapel, William (Albina) Schapel, Mary Ann (Greg) Soloway; in-laws, Mary Kay (Mike) Sovacool, and Chris (Kim) Krawczyk, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 19, at 11:00 am at Ascension Catholic Church, 2525 Woodman Dr., Kettering, OH 45420. A luncheon will be provided immediately following the service in the Witzman Center.
