Cheryl Ann Short, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, at the age of 79. She was born on August 6, 1946, in Dayton, Ohio, and grew up to embody warmth, generosity, and a profound love for her family and friends. Cheryl graduated from Fairmont High School on May 27, 1964. She spent many fulfilling years as a receptionist at Miami Valley South, where her kindness and dedication uplifted both colleagues and patients alike. Her vibrant spirit shone through in her hobbies, including sewing, walking, gardening, and photographing her grandchildren’s sporting events, which brought her immense joy and creativity. In addition to her hobbies, Cheryl loved her dogs; especially, Stuart and Sadie. Cheryl leaves behind a loving family, which includes her son Bill (Amy) Krueger of Kettering, Ohio, and her daughter Anne (Mike) Sander of Monroe, Ohio. She was a proud grandmother to Sammie Sander, Matt (Liz) Sander, Drew (Katie) Krueger, and David Sander. Cheryl is also survived by her cherished sisters, Eileen (Len) Buddie and Amy (Bruce) Yackee, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who will carry her memory forward. She is preceded in death by her father, Herbert E. Criss; her mother, Mary Lou Markham; her beloved husband, Estill "Luke" Short, Jr.; and her grandson, Will Krueger. A visitation will be held on December 27, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, with a funeral service to follow. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring Cheryl's life and legacy. She will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Hospice of Dayton, an organization that provided compassionate care that Cheryl valued deeply.
