Clara Schroeder Hegeman

age 94, of Dayton, passed away Friday, October 27, 2000. She was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, daughter of William and Emma (Goetze) Schroeder. Clara attended the University of Wisconsin and Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She was pianist-organist with the Hotel Statler Ensemble, Boston, Massachusetts, prior to her marriage to John L. Hegeman in 1936. After moving to Dayton, Ohio, she was a Dean of the Dayton Chapter, American Guild of Organists, organist of Fairmont Presbyterian Church for several years, member of Sigma Alpha Iota, International Music Fraternity, and for eleven years was Chairperson for the S.A.I. Bold Note Music Project. She supervised and directed college and alumni chapters in hand copying enlarged music for the partially sighted. This music was then deposited with the Library of Congress. She received certificates of recognition for this work from the Library of Congress and Sigma Alpha Iota. Preceded in death by her husband, John L. Hegeman, in 1986. Survived by her son, John W. ''Bill'', and wife, Shirley, of Oneonta NY; 2 grandsons, John W., Jr., and wife, Tammy of Henderson NV and Robert L. of Schenectady NY; 2 great granddaughters, Lindsey and Courtney Hegeman of Henderson NV; 3 step-grandchildren, Dianne Robinson and husband, William, of Fairfield OH, Charles Stapleton, and wife, Kathy, of Hartselle AL, and David Stapleton of Santa Rosa CA; 4 step-great grandchildren, John Robinson, Deena and Brett Stapleton of California and Cheyenne Stapleton of Alabama; 1 great niece, Kitty Talon, and husband, Ken, of Pelham MA; and 2 great grand nieces, Debbie and Sousa Talon, of Boston MA. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 29, in the Routsong Funeral Home, 6 Oakwood Ave. at Irving, Dayton. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m., Sunday, in the funeral home. Private entombment in Woodland Mausoleum will be held Monday.
