Claudia Gail Riedel

November 26, 1935 — May 14, 2025

Centerville

Claudia Gail Riedel “Granny”, age 89, of Centerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, with her son and daughter by her side. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1935 to Marcelle (Nardin) Cline and Vernon Cline.

Claudia graduated from John Adams High School and attended Katherine Gibb’s Secretarial School. After graduation, she worked at NBC in New York City and met numerous well-known celebrities. After getting married and moving to Long Island, she worked in a school and later took a break to raise her children. While her children were in school, she volunteered at Oxhead Road Elementary School. During these years, she also worked for her husband’s construction company by keeping all the books for the company. After many years of service, Claudia returned to the office and retired from Nalco Chemical Company in 1995.

Claudia was a member of Far Hills Chapter Eastern Star and White Shrine and served many years as treasurer. She belonged to the Centerville Women’s Civic Club (CWCC) and enjoyed attending their monthly luncheons. She was a faithful disciple at Living Water Lutheran Church in Centerville and will be remembered as a member of the “front row ladies”. Claudia loved to travel. After retiring, she and other members of the “Rat Pack” traveled to numerous countries around the world. She treasured her friends in the Jane Middleton Christcare group and their Friday night dinners. Through her Christcare group, Claudia’s true passion for playing cards was formed. She played cards several nights a week into the late hours and was their scorekeeper. She was so committed to her card group that family events had to be scheduled around her card schedule. She had many friends, but none so dear as Jane. Their bond over the years led to a relationship of trust and a fierce sense of loyalty for each other. They could say things about each other, but no one else could. Claudia’s other hobbies included being an avid reader, doing crossword and sudoku puzzles, shopping every Saturday, and spending time with her many cats over the years.

Preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Marcelle Cline and her husband of 37 years, Herbert E. Riedel. She is survived by her son, Glenn J. Riedel and his wife, Susan; daughter, Tracey A. Poole and husband Alan. Her grandchildren, Amber and Nick Riedel, Jordan (Jamie) Bonner-Poole and Vivienne Poole. Her great-grandchildren Logan and Adaline Riedel and Fitzgerald (Fitzy) Bonner-Poole. Claudia also leaves behind her beloved cat, Alexander Hamilton Covid 19. She plans to meet Rufus and Toby at the Rainbow Bridge.
