David William Hedley

June 3, 1965-October 18, 2026

Born and raised in Kettering, Ohio, Dave enjoyed a wonderful childhood. Idyllic days-off from school were spent biking through the streets and creeks of Kettering with a group of friends he has continued to maintain for 55+ years. He attended The Miami Valley School through middle school and then Fairmont West High School. Immediately upon graduating, Dave joined the U.S. Army where he served his country with distinction.

After seeing a bit of the world with the military, Dave lived in the sunny South and eventually made his way back to the streets and creeks of Kettering.

A strong work ethic enabled Dave to get his first job at 14 years old in a bakery. His early paychecks financed his purchase of his most treasured Golden Retriever, Rusty. Most recently he worked more than 20 years as a valued employee of Kearney’s Landscaping Company.

Dave enjoyed the outdoors, playing his guitar, classic rock, and making people laugh. Gifted with a sharp wit and excellent timing, he could bring down the house.

Dave had a gentle magnetism that could attract and calm animals. He loved all God’s creatures from his beloved childhood dog, Rusty, to the deer and birds that sought refuge in his backyard. He embodied the virtues of his Christian faith – kindness, compassion, joy, and patience. He practiced these virtues daily toward family, friends, coworkers, and everyone he leaves behind.

Beloved by all who knew him, Dave is survived by parents William and Denise, brother Charles (Deborah), sisters Kathleen “Kitty” (Charles) and Claire (Bradley), nine nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews who knew but him but briefly, but will love him through the stories of our Dear Dave.

Visitation and service to be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 20 West First St, Dayton Ohio Sunday October 25, 2026. Visitation 1:00 p.m. and Service 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow. Private interment Monday October 26, 2026, David’s Cemetery.
