Debra Elaine (nee Whirls) Scott

July 27, 1957 — May 7, 2023

Fairborn

Debra “Debbie” Elaine Scott (Whirls), 65, passed away on May 7, 2023. She was born to parents Grace Eileen Whirls and George Henry Whirls on July 27, 1957, who both predeceased her.

Debra easily is described as having a beautiful soul and providing unconditional love for those who knew her. She had the rare quality of being beautiful on the inside and outside. Her heart was full of compassion for others and had an endless capacity for love. She was such a strong and caring person, and was the greatest of listeners. Debbie had a very distinct jovial laugh and humor about her, and she made friends from anywhere and from all walks of life.

Words to describe her: Friend, Mom, Sister, Daughter of the King of Kings, lover of my soul, Jesus.

As a Mom, Debbie was an amazing mother of two children, who she adored, son Robert Lee Scott III and daughter Sarah Elizabeth Schill. Debbie was known to say her greatest achievement and greatest loves of her life were her two kids, whom she was extremely proud and bragged about. She taught them their own capacity to love, the power of forgiveness, and guided them to their own spiritual faith.

As a Sister, Debbie was a great younger sister to her only sibling, Patricia Ann Whirls, as they are warmly known as the “Squirrelly Whirls” sisters. They traveled together, supported one another through thick and thin, and their sisterly connection was a source of strength and joy in their lives.

As a Child of God, Debbie had a deep Christian faith. She found comfort, guidance, and strength in her relationship with God, and her spiritual wisdom touched the lives of those around her. Her devotion to reading the Bible, noting her favorite verses, and sharing her spiritual wisdom exemplified her commitment to her beliefs.

Debbie was a stage 4 breast cancer survivor of late. She fought and had beaten cancer, and did it with absolute grace. Recently, she was a supporter of others who got diagnosed with breast cancer and served as a mentor for them.

She recently became a grandmother to Lucas Scott Schill, from her daughter Sarah and son-in-law Trent Michael Schill. She was also a loving aunt to Joseph Thomas Armstrong and Melissa Eilene Matheson, and their children.

Debra was a two year early graduate of Fairview High School. She graduated from Sinclair Community College, earning an associate’s in business management, Debbie received her bachelor’s of arts in business management from Wright State University. Also, Debbie earned a bachelor’s of arts in accounting from Strayer University.

Her career field started as a buyer for SRL, then she became a full time mother when her children were born. Later she worked as a medical billing and coding specialist, served as an instructor at local colleges and eventually retired in the accounting field.

She will be absolutely missed by her family and friends, but those family and friends know she is in Heaven with her parents and beloved dog Moto. The family has decided to hold private services to honor and remember Debbie. Routsong Funeral Home will be entrusted with handling the arrangements.

During this difficult time, may the memories of Debra's love, strength, and unwavering faith provide comfort and strength to all those who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make a donation in Debbie’s honor to the Pink Ribbon Ladies who helped her during her fight and defeat of breast cancer. Donations can be made at https://www.pinkribbongood.org/donate
