JOHNSON, Dorothy Marie, age 88, of Kettering passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born August 2, 1924 in Dayton.
Dorothy was a 1943 graduate of Stivers High School and a longtime member of South Park United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Robert Kenneth Johnson, in 1998; parents, Samuel Godfrey and Martha Esther (Burkholder) Shook; sister, Frances Irene Denton; and brothers, Joseph Robert and Edwin Lee Shook. She is survived by her son, Roger Lee Johnson of Kettering; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Marie and Charles E. Wells of Oakwood; grandchildren, Philip E. (Andrea) Wells and Kelli A. (Eric) Wood; great grandchildren, Garrett, Sylvia, and Charlton Wood; niece, Virginia Denton Stewart and members of her family, Jill and Shilo Stewart; four sisters-in-law and their families; beloved friends, James and Donna Harland of Murray, UT and their family, "granddaughters" Amy Elizabeth Harland Lacy (Wes) of Stafford, VA and Jessica Marie Harland, and "great grandson" Zachary of Sandy, UT.
Following a private burial at Miami Valley Memory Gardens, a service celebrating her life will begin at 11:00am on Friday, July 12, 2013, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering officiated by Rev. Alan Carroll of Christ United Methodist Church. A reception will immediately follow until 1:00pm.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's name to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420.
Her family extends their gratitude to all those at Kettering Medical Center's MSICU and at Hospice of Dayton whose care let Dorothy fulfill her final wishes.
