CALVIN, Dr. David Lee, age 77, of Dayton, formerly of Zanesville, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023. David was born October 12, 1946 in Cleveland, OH to Charles and Josephine (Lewis) Calvin. He was a sergeant in the Air Force from 1965 to 1969, then finished his career serving the Navy, retiring in 1996. David took great pride in his work with the Navy Nuclear Program, Naval Aviation Maintenance, and attached to NATO. He held a doctorate in Psychology and was most happy when helping the less fortunate. He loved to travel the world, was a master chess player, and enjoyed woodworking and restoration. After retirement, David became a novelist, penning numerous mysteries and a young adult book. A member of Fairmont Presbyterian Church since 2018, David was devout in his faith. Above everything else, David was devoted to his family, whom he loved dearly.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Calvin; sister, Ruth Marie Keffer; brother, Dana Calvin; and nephew, Timothy Keffer. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 18 and a half years, Susan Calvin; son, Joshua (Adrienne) Calvin; step-children, Dennis (Monique) Penfield, Chris (Jeni) Penfield, Jennifer (Brian) Taylor, and Andrew (Jenna) Penfield; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Phil) Dandy, Aurora Calvin, Elle Calvin, Anya Taylor, Gage Penfield, John Penfield, Kieran Taylor, Maia Penfield, Hayden Penfield, Charlotte Penfield, Cade Penfield, William Penfield, and Theodore Penfield; great-grandchildren, Theodore and Benjamin Dandy; and nieces and nephews, Megan Keffer, Brian Keffer, and Erin (Ron) Cole.
Memorial Services will be held for David Monday, October 30 at 11:00am at Fairmont Presbyterian Church, 3705 Far Hills Ave., Kettering, OH 45429. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in David’s name to Fairmont Presbyterian Church.
