Dr. Nadia M. Shenouda of Waynesville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the age of 80 surrounded by love and her family to be with our Lord Jesus Christ.
Nadia was the matriarch of her family. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was born May 1, 1945, in Sohag, Egypt. Nadia was one of three children and lost her father at a young age. She attended Cairo University Medical School. Shortly after graduating from medical school, she would marry her soulmate, Shenouda. Opportunities were limited for Coptic Christians living in Egypt in the early 1970s, so shortly after they were married, they would move to London, England where she began her medical career as an anesthesiologist. Several years later, when the opportunity arose to immigrate to the United States, they took it. In 1978, the young couple would arrive to Cleveland Ohio. Several years later, they would move to Cincinnati and eventually settled in Dayton.
Nadia completed her residency at the University of Cincinnati Hospital before joining Miami Valley Hospital, where she worked for 30 years prior to retiring in 2012. In 2006, she was nominated and was named Physician of the Year. As an anesthesiologist, she brought compassion and care to her patients. She was deeply loved and respected by her colleagues and the surgical staff, who valued her expertise, calming presence, and unwavering dedication to patient safety and comfort. Her patients were always her priority, and she took great care to ease their fears and ensure they felt cared for during vulnerable moments.
Nadia loved her Coptic Orthodox faith and was an active member of her church. She put her love and dedication to Jesus and her Coptic Orthodox faith above everything else, and chose to live with grace, compassion, and strength. Her passion was helping mentor young doctors and immigrant couples she met through church. She found comfort in helping them settle in, start families and find jobs. Her tenacity, humility, empathy, and unconditional love, together with her grace and elegance, left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Nadia had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel, visiting countries around the world and creating cherished memories on family vacations. When she was not traveling, she was hosting family and friends for dinner. Most of all, she loved being a Teta to her grandchildren, spending as much time with them and spoiling them as much as she could.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fares Ab El Malek and Stella Kelada, and her brother, Ralph Malek.
Nadia is survived by her husband of 53 years, Shenouda G. Shenouda; her daughters Marian (Todd) Langley and Sarah (Matt) Doyle; her grandchildren Stella, Sophia, Jonah and Layla; her sister, Sohir Malek; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and Egypt.
