BLACKER, Eleanor Ruth Patterson 96, of Dayton, OH, passed away peacefully in her home in Dayton, Ohio on Wednesday, September 9, with family and her trusted Cavalier King Charles, “Angel”, by her side.
She was a 1948 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. In 1952, she graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a degree in Home Economics and was a proud member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. After graduating from college, Elly came to Dayton, Ohio to work for the Rike Kumler Company as a part of the “flying squad,” then travelled with Frigidaire as District Home Economist. In 1955, she married her only true love and soulmate, Neal. Together, they raised one son and three daughters. In 1986, they established The Mulberry Tree, selling fine stationery at Town and Country Shopping Center in Kettering, Ohio; later, they moved to the 2600 block of Far Hills Avenue in Oakwood. This small business served the community well for 20 years! On October 1, 2010, they celebrated fifty-five memorable years of marriage! Elly was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and “GG”.
She is survived by her children Lawrence N. Blacker III, "Chip", of Xenia, OH; Elizabeth Blacker Burton, "Betsy", of Columbus, OH; Nancy Blacker Tynes and husband Lin of Roseland, VA; grandchildren Christopher (Ciara) and Ethan Burton (Addie), Andrew and Annie Tynes, great grandchildren Rhys and Theo Burton, and faithful canine companion "Angel". Elly was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and beloved daughter, Janie Blacker. A sincere thanks to family and friends near and far, Mom’s 24-hour loving care team, VITAS Healthcare, Westminster Church, and the management of Wintergreen Resort for their support.
On Thursday, October 1, the family will hold a Visitation (11 am – noon) at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main Street, Centerville, OH followed by a Celebration of Life (noon – 2 pm); and later that afternoon, a private burial service at David's Cemetery with The Reverend Doctor Caitlin Deyerle, Westminster Presbyterian Church, officiating.
