Eugene Lenz Libbin

September 12, 1920 — April 3, 2012

LIBBIN, Maj. Eugene Lenz, age 91, passed away peacefully at his residence on April 3, 2012 following a brief illness. Gene was born September 12, 1920 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He joined the United States Marine Corps on his 18th birthday and served his country for 24 years, retiring as a highly decorated Major. Gene was a veteran of both the Korean War and WWII serving his country in the Pacific Theater. He was wounded on Iwo Jima and sent via hospital ship to Seattle, Washington where he met his nurse and future wife, Annacille, who preceded him in death in 2007. Gene was retired from the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Gene is survived by daughters, Mary (Gene Culver) Libbin and Barbara (Robert) Garrison; son, Robert (Maria) Libbin. Also survived by his grandchildren, Brian (Erin) Libbin, Rachael Libbin, Anita (Michael) Kulp, Robert Garrison, and Andrew Garrison; great-grandchildren, Emma and Matthew Cox, Aidan Kulp, and Zachary Libbin. The family wishes to thank the staff of Miami Valley South Emergency Department and Hospice of Dayton for their care and support during his brief illness. Gene will always be remembered for his distinguished service in the United States Marine Corps, his kind and gentle nature, his love for his family and his love for his dogs. Each dog was always "the best one he ever had". The family will receive friends on Monday, April 9, 2012 from 5:00-7:00pm at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH. Prayers will be held Monday night during the visitation at 6:30PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6245 Wilmington Pike, Centerville, OH with Fr. Tom Schmidt officiating. Burial to follow in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington DC. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.routsong.com. Semper Fi Major!
