Frank George Mione, born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on November 21, 1932, passed away on June 20, 2025. He was preceded by his loving parents, Paul and Loretta Mione, his brother, Benedict Mione, his first wife, Gloria (Bayman) Mione, his loving son and daughter, Mitchell and Leeann Mione and his daughter-in-law, Cherryl (Mullady) Mione. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda (Hack) Mione, and their family: Susan (Ken) Velten of Monument, CO, Karen (Lee) Wiegand of New Albany, Ohio, eight grandchildren, Michelle, Liz (Nate), Makenzie, Bailey (Eric), Joey, Allie (Tristan), Jimmy, Jack; four great grandchildren, Hudson, Lincoln, Ruth and Benjamin, all of whom lovingly called him Pop Pop; Frank’s sister, Rosalie Mione DeArmas, and sister-in-law Irma Carlon-Mione among his nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frank took great joy in being a “member of the Brooklyn Panther Group” that played sand lot football in Brooklyn and years later attending his annual New York reunion. Frank attended Otterbein University and graduated with a B.S. in Education. While at Otterbein, he played varsity baseball and football. He captained the baseball team his senior year and was a member of the Varsity “O” Club.

After college, Frank served in the Army in the 36th Field Artillery Group and spent 18 months in Germany. While in Germany, Frank was a member of the Rammers baseball team. The many newspaper articles written in his tribute that were sent back to the United States earned him an offer to join the farm team with the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, after returning from Germany, Frank taught science at the DeGraff School for two years and Miamisburg School for three years. This led to a 34-year career with NCR, predominantly in the computer education arena (programming, systems, applications, education management).

Frank was an exceptional athlete, enjoying hockey, tennis, golf, softball, and pickleball. He was a member of NCR Golf Club and a member of Hollinger Tennis Club where he served as president in 2002. He loved flying as a private pilot with over 350 hours and 1000 landings. He also flew for the Civil Air Patrol.

Linda and Frank shared many exciting biking adventures in Europe, and traveled to the Galapagos as well as throughout the United States visiting family and friends. Both Frank and Linda were animal lovers and had shared many endearing experiences with each of their special pets.

Frank served as Deacon of Westminster Presbyterian Church, a 30+ year member of Oakwood Rotary, World Fixers, NCR Lunch Group and Thursday morning Breakfast Group. As family knows, Frank loved to eat and often when he had finished breakfast, he was already thinking about his next meal. In recent weeks, he eagerly anticipated his oyster meals and was proud of his own record of eating 24 oysters within minutes!

He was truly the epitome of a kind, Christian, generous man to family and friends. Frank loved people and one of his favorite individuals was Will Rogers because of the saying “I never met a man I didn’t like.” He was truly loved dearly by the many members of his family and friends. Frank was always so positive and when anyone asked how he was….Frank would always answer…“Super, Are you kidding me!” Much to the delight of his grandchildren, he claimed to know a word that rhymed with "orange" - a word that he never revealed, but reminded them of often!

On May 29th Frank was selected to attend the 142nd Mission with Honor Flight Columbus; he traveled to Washington D.C. to visit the nation's memorials with fellow veterans. As the oldest veteran on the mission, he was presented with a flag at the WWII Memorial, something that was very special to him.

Those that knew and loved him will hold a place for him in their heart forever.
