HIMES, George, age 91 of Kettering, OH passed peacefully away on June 12th, 2022. He is survived by his lovely wife of more than 71 years, Shirley Himes. He is also survived by his three daughters, Angela Shaw (Mark) of Beavercreek, Lyn Schaadt (Jack) of Troy and Cheri Cantini (Evan) of Seattle WA; grandchildren Jon Schaadt (Amber) of Troy, Jason Shaw (Elizabeth) of Columbus, Michael Schaadt (Erin) of Springfield, Bryan Shaw (Faith) of Tampa FL, Erin Fransen (Chad) of Chico, CA, Nicholas Schaadt (Lauren) of Olive Branch, MS and Elise Cantini. He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren.
George will be remembered for his bear hugs, outgoing personality, humor and love.
George was the son of George and Barbara Himes. He was born in Kewanee Illinois. He was actively involved in the Baptist youth group while growing up. He met Shirley at the age of 14. When she walked into his classroom, he turned to his best friend and said “I am going to marry her”. He joined the Navy during the Korean War. Shirley traveled to San Francisco to marry George. George was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. After being honorable discharged they returned to Illinois with their first baby and another on the way. George and Shirley eventually moved to Ohio with all three girls. He was employed with DESC for several years and then transferred to WPAB. George was a Branch Manager and dealt with contract negotiations. He retired at 56 and then George and Shirley traveled extensively.
He loved wood working in his work shop and was an avid gardener.
George and Shirley have been actively involved in their church for all of their married life.
