SMITH, George Maxwell, age 90, of Centerville, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026.
George was born on March 29, 1936, in Manchester, OH to Paul and Mary Ruth (Clifton) Smith. He graduated from Manchester High School and earned his associate’s degree in business from Miami Jacobs. George was a member of Restoration Church and served alongside the 'Job Jar' guys. He served four years in the Navy, worked at County Fair Bakery and Wonder Bread, and also as a Punch Press Operator for Precision Industries. George enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, country concerts, the Cincinnati Reds and letting folks know he was 'fine and dandy'. He always enjoyed spending time with his family and was always there for them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and childhood sweetheart-wife, Doris Ann (Turner) Smith. George is survived by children, Cheryl (Brad) Kenney, Steven (Cheryl) Smith, and Michael (Knicole) Smith; grandchildren, Laura, Kristin, Riley, Madeline, Maxwell, and Sophie; and great-grandson, August.
Family will greet friends Monday, August 24 from 12:00pm-1:00pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00pm at the funeral home. George will be laid to rest in Miami Valley Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of George’s favorite charities.
