Geraldine Smith, 95, formerly of Redlands, California, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, with her children by her side. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Gerry was the youngest child of George Stanley and Geneva Webb. A graduate of Pierre DuPont High School, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from The Ohio State University in 1952, where she became a member of the Tri Delta Sorority and a lifelong Buckeye fan.
Gerry married Air Force pilot Harry French Smith, and together they raised three children while moving frequently for military assignments, including posts in Hawaii and Bermuda. She worked as a hospital dietitian in several states and was actively involved in her community through leadership roles in the Officers’ Wives Club, League of Women Voters, Contemporary Club, and the Republican Women’s Club of Redlands and San Bernardino County, serving as a delegate to the national convention.
She was a devoted supporter of the Redlands Bowl and volunteered with the Assistance League’s Operation School Bell, providing books and essentials to underprivileged children. Gerry also raised and socialized puppies for Guide Dogs of the Desert, helping them prepare for a life of service. She also shared her certified therapy dog with children during reading programs and hospitals.
Known for her love of music, Gerry enjoyed playing the piano. As a member of the Redlands Congregational Church, she sang in the choir and served as a deacon. She was an avid bridge player, accomplished seamstress, and gracious hostess who enjoyed teas, travel, and spending time with her family.
Gerry is survived by her three children: Craig (Kathy) Smith of Beavercreek, OH; Linda (Mike) Smith and Bigwood of Fort Worth TX; and Donna (Jeff, deceased) Orvedahl of Medfield MA; eight grandchildren: Katie, Jason, Ashley, Matt, Kyle, Laura, Mike, and Ryan; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Harry Smith, and her brothers George Jr., Larry, and William.
Gerry will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and dedication to family, service, and community. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Guide Dogs of the Desert, 60735 Dillon Rd., Whitewater, CA 92282.
Visitation is at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering, OH 45459 on August 2nd, from 10:00-11:00 AM, followed by the memorial service. The burial will be on August 6th, 10:45 AM, at Riverside National Cemetery, CA. where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
