CONLEY, Herbert “Herb”, age 87 of Kettering, passed away on March 17, 2026. He was born in Dayton on May 5, 1938 to parents Woodrow and Beatrice Conley.
Herb attended Wilbur Wright High School, graduating in 1957. He worked for the City of Dayton Street Maintenance for 31 years before his retirement in 1991. After his first retirement, Herb went back to work with LJB Inc. as an inspector for 17 years before finally retiring to his recliner.
He and his wife Mary Anna were long time members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Herb was also involved in the American Legion Post 598 and Moose Lodge 1645.
In his younger years, Herb enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. In his later years, he and Mary Anna enjoyed traveling to many spots around the world. Herb was also known for watching old Western shows on TV.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Larry and Willie, and son-in-law, Dan.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Anna Conley; daughters Cheryl, Amy (Steve), and Jill (John); grandchildren Anne (Greg), Tim, Hailey (Scott), and Jacob (Cassi), “adopted daughter” Gina, and many extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 23 from 6:00-8:00pm at Routsong Funeral Home, Kettering (2100 E. Stroop Rd). A funeral service will be held at 11:00am the following day at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (33 W. Dixon Ave).
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the 2 West staff at Kettering Health Main Campus and Hospice of Dayton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton in memory of Herb.
