J. Kevin Maxwell

August 8, 1953 — July 30, 2025

Oakwood

J. Kevin Maxwell, age 71, better known as “Max” to his close friends and family, of Oakwood, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on July 30, 2025, after a courageous 12-year battle with pulmonary vasculitis.

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Max attended The Kiski School in Saltsburg before graduating from Denison University in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree. At Denison, he was a proud member of the Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji) fraternity. After graduation, he took over ownership of the James Store in Granville before moving to Dayton, where he built a long and successful career in sales. Max retired in 2023.

Max will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a kind and easy-going gentleman, known for his classic sense of style. He had a deep love for dogs, a special fondness for the beach, and never turned down a good vodka tonic with lime. More than anything, he treasured time spent with his family, who were the center of his world.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anne and George Maxwell; sister, Carolyn Maxwell; father-in-law, Paul Starlin; and sister-in-law, Sarah Starlin.

Max is survived by his beloved wife, Stephanie; son, John (Brittney); daughter, Sally (Willy); grandchildren, Gus and Gracie; and mother-in-law, Doris.
