James Arthur Makley, known to all as Jim, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the age of 76.
A resident of Springboro, Jim was born on July 12, 1948, to William and Janet Makley in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Chaminade High School in 1966 and continued his education at the University of Dayton. Jim’s career in mechanical engineering led to employment with Monarch Marking Systems (later Avery Dennison), where he was senior designer.
Jim could often be found riding his Harley with his beloved wife and group of close friends. He loved getting out into nature and brought that enthusiasm to his home, where his yard was a haven for birds and other wildlife. Jim also enjoyed attending local car shows and was passionate about Dayton history. He will be remembered as a caring husband and great friend whose smile brought joy to everyone around him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Becky Makley; brothers, Richard (Joan) Makley, and Robert (Kitty) Makley; nieces, Jessica (Nick) Adams, and Beth (Kevin Gross) Makley; nephew, Nathan Makley; great-nieces, Mya and MaKenna Makley; numerous cousins, and a host of treasured friends.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his cherished parents-in-law, Joseph and Leona Beck.
A visitation will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, May 30, at Routsong Funeral Home in Kettering (2100 E. Stroop Rd.), with a celebration of life to follow at 4:00pm. Jim’s final place of rest will be St. Kateri Preserve in Calvary Cemetery.
