James K. Woessner

James Keil Woessner, known to all as Jim, passed away on September 2, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio, following the natural progression of Parkinson's disease. He was 76 years old.

Born on August 29, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio, Jim spent his youth alongside his brothers, including many hours at the downtown Dayton YMCA, a place he would return to fondly throughout his life. He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1972 as a member of the 38th Squadron, and went on to earn a Master's Degree in meteorology from Penn State University. While stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington, he met Sheri Morrison, whom he married in December of 1977. Together they built a life and raised two children, Andrea and Nick.

Jim's distinguished military career carried him around the world. He served as the liaison between the U.S. Geological Survey and Clark Air Force Base in The Philippines during Mount Pinatubo’s volcanic activity that lead to an eruption in 1991. He later worked at the Pentagon, about which he told his family, in his own words, diddly-squat. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1992, after which the family settled in Dayton. There he joined his father, Carl Frank Woessner, and his brothers Carl, Dwight, and Pete at Dayton Supply & Tool Company for many years before retiring to tinker in the garage.

A man of many passions, Jim loved politics, woodworking, and his cherished sports cars, among them a Porsche and a succession of Corvettes. He delighted in camping, much to the chagrin of his family. For many years he volunteered with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and was instrumental in organizing TechFest STEM events for local Dayton families, sharing his love of learning with a new generation.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sheri Morrison Woessner; his daughter, Andrea Elizabeth (Woessner) Glazer, her husband Frank Glazer, and their daughter Greta Glazer; and his son, Nicholas Andrew Woessner, and his children Lucy Woessner and Mark Woessner.

A visitation will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9th, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd, Dayton, Ohio, followed by a service at noon and a reception thereafter. In lieu of flowers, Jim requested donations to the U.S. Air Force Academy Rugby Club, and his family also welcomes gifts to the Parkinson's Foundation.
