SCHRODI, Jerry age 79, of Kettering, OH, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. Jerry was born on August 31, 1946, in Dayton, OH, to the late Frank and Dorothy Schrodi. He grew up in Dayton and graduated from Patterson Cooperative High School in 1964. After High School he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in California and Minnesota during his service as a Radar Technician. Following his time in the Air Force, Jerry continued his education at the University of Cincinnati where he earned his B.S. in Fire and Industrial Safety Technology, graduating in 1978 Summa Cum Laude. While attending UC Jerry was introduced to Andrea Blakeman on a blind date, later marrying in 1976. Additionally while at UC he started his long career in Fire Safety as a volunteer firefighter with Washington Township in1972 and later Kettering as full time in 1975. Together Jerry and Andrea settled in Washington Township and started their family. Over his 25 year career Jerry worked for Washington Township Fire Dept, and The Kettering Fire Prevention Bureau, before retiring as a Captain from the City of Kettering Fire Dept, in 1997.
In Emily’s youth, Jerry served as a T-Ball Coach in Centerville. In Brad’s youth, Jerry was a Cub Scout Master of Pack 299 in Centerville and later an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 236 of Kettering. Could often be found on the golf course with his firefighter co-workers and friends. Kept his retired fire-fighting community together as party coordinator. He was an avid firefighter memorabilia collector. He will be remembered fondly by his family as a wonderful protector, provider, and beloved community leader.
He is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 42 years, Andrea Schrodi; siblings, Sharon Schrodi, Frank “Butch” Schrodi Jr., and Anthony Schrodi; Step-mother, Dolores (nee Davis) Schrodi; step-siblings, Penny Penick and George Nauyoks
Jerry is survived by his children, Bradley Schrodi and Emily Schrodi; step-sisters, Mary Nauyoks and Shirley Blevins; nieces, Tammy Schrodi, Lisa Hammond, and Christina Schrodi; and numerous extended family and friends.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to SICSA pet adoption and wellness center.
