John (Jack) Burkley, Jr.

BURKLEY, John (Jack) K. Jr., age 67, of Dayton, OH, formerly of Centerville, OH passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. John was born on January 19, 1956 to the late John Sr. and Betty Burkley in Akron, OH. He grew up in the Akron area and graduated from Walsh Jesuit High School before attending The Ohio State University.

Following his education, John began his long career in IT with NCR, Relizon, WorkflowOne, and Standard Register in Dayton. Throughout his life he loved cars, spending time outdoors, whether it was biking, kayaking, or walking through his favorite parks. John had a great appreciation of the arts, both visual and performing. He often combined those passions by volunteering at the Fraze Pavilion and the Bellbrook Sugarcreek Park District for many years. He was also an avid reader and was always happy to dive into the latest mystery book. When he wasn't listening to music, working in the yard, or reading he could often be found driving around in his Miata. Above all else John was a loving father to his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved dogs, Sparky, Stormy "Dig Dag", and Buddy "Digby". He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of 17 years, Lois Burkley; son, John L. (Megan) Burkley; daughter, Tess Burkley; grandson, John "Jack" Burkley; step-daughters, Melissa (Andy) Richardson and Katie (Denny) Hirt; step­grandchildren, Brielle, Lillian, and Andrew Richardson and Zelda and Tristan Hirt; sisters, Pat (Mark) Waickman and Pam (Chuck) Bobosky; nieces, Kelley Hodgkiss and Paula Zabel; nephew, Chris Bobosky; and numerous extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E Stroop Rd. Family will greet friends following the service until 2:30pm. Final resting place David's Cemetery.
