Dayton

FISHER Jr., John Wickersham March, age 93, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family and caregivers on the 9th of May, 2026. He was born on June 1, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late John and Edith (Foshee) Fisher.

John grew up in Dallas and moved to Dayton with his family in 1949. He later graduated from The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. An avid Buckeye and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The Ohio State University, John met his vibrant and beautiful wife, Sally, on a blind date arranged by their college roommates. After graduating from Ohio State, he earned a master’s degree from Harvard University and went on to work for Martin Marietta Guided Missile, Merrill Lynch, and The E. F. MacDonald Company.

John developed a lifelong passion for golf, which shaped much of the rhythm of his days. He was a valued member of the United States Army Golf Team prior to attending Ohio State. He was a two-time club champion at Dayton Country Club, a nine-time club champion at Moraine Country Club, the 1970 Dayton City Champion, and a 2014 inductee into the Dayton Amateur Golf Hall of Fame.

Through the years, John adored his pets—especially his beloved Jack Russel Terriers. A devoted reader, he treasured books of all kinds and enjoyed time with close friends who shared his deep interest in history, literature, and sports.

John valued time with his children and grandchildren. He took pride in their accomplishments, enjoyed their visits, and appreciated the simple pleasure of sharing conversations, stories, and everyday moments together.

John was especially fond of the delicious meals lovingly prepared by Sally, who brought magic to their kitchen every day. Her homemade dishes and desserts, always delivered with care and timeliness, made family meals cherished occasions and a source of great joy for John.

John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sally; his parents; his half-brother, Charles Abercrombie Fisher; and numerous family members and friends. He is survived by his son, John (Maureen) Fisher III; his daughter, Marianne (Mike) Raab; his grandchildren, Matthew Fisher, Mae Raab, Vivi Raab, Lily Fisher, and J.P. Fisher; as well as many other relatives and friends.

John will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Carlyle House of Dayton for the exceptional care they provided. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton or Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
