Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John L. Hosford, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, who left this world on March 6, 2026, at the age of 81. Born in Dayton, OH, John dedicated his life to bringing joy to the hearing impaired and adventure to those around him. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Barbara L. Hosford, with whom he shared over 60 wonderful years of marriage.

John was a good man who brought creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit into every conversation and worked hard to help those in need around him. He founded Hi-Tek and Hearall Hearing Aid Centers in 1985, proudly serving families and improving the hearing quality of life for thousands of patients for more than 37 years. He saw the world through the lens of possibility and refused to accept barriers and conventional solutions. His passions included camping, boating, card games, square dancing, and raising his family.

John is preceded in death by his wife Barbara L. Hosford, Edgar and Ethel Hosford, Esther Swearingen; brother/sister in-laws, Gary (Wanda) Schwartz, Lee Schwartz, Joanilla Schwartz, Daniel Schwartz, Angie Schwartz, and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Hindman and Volley King; as well as his dear grandson, Eli Hosford, and great-grandson, William Rossi.

He is survived by his beloved children and spouses, Michael (Christine), John (Joy), Nicholas (Jill), and his cherished daughter, Tina; his sister Cathi (Jim) Heaton, and brothers/sisters in-law Mimi (Dick) Moebius, Renee (Thomas) Teague, Jenny Hindman, Cindy (Michael) Seibert, Amy King, Jan Schwartz, and Chris Schwartz; and a vast and loving family that includes grandchildren, Cassie (Brian) Rossi, Brandon, Daniel (Anela), Sydney, Aaron, Luke, Noah (Morgan), Sarah (Joshua) Hood, Elizabeth, Simon, Abigail (Conner) Haines, Ethan, Jacob (Kim), Timothy (Sophia), Andrew, Katie, Marcus; step-grandchildren Adam (Tara), Kyle (Kelsey), Elliott Heckler as well as his treasured great-grandchildren, Emma Rossi, Ella Hood, Matthew Hosford, Loralei Hosford, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Routsong Funeral Home in Centerville on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Ascension Catholic Church on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 11am, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, 1625 Calvary Ave., Dayton, OH. The reception will follow at Ascension Church- Witzman Center in Kettering, where family and friends will gather to celebrate John’s extraordinary life. The ceremony will reflect his resilient spirit and the love he shared with everyone. We invite all who knew him to come together to honor his memory and share in the joy he brought to our lives.
